Chapter 371:

A vein on Kristopher’s forehead throbbed visibly. “Belinda said that?”

Cathy looked down, avoiding eye contact. “Yes... That's what Miss Nelson said.”

Kristopher’s expression grew tense. “How did she leave? Did someone cto pick her up?”

Cathy shook her head. “Miss Nelson... She walked away without her shoes.”

“Such a fool!” Kristopher abruptly stood up, grabbed his jacket from the back of the chair, and made for the

door.

The city center was nearly six miles away, and the roads were empty at night. Was she really planning to walk all

that way barefoot?

“Kristopher!”

Cathy called out, her voice tinged with alarm as she saw him grab his jacket, clearly preparing to leave. Rushing

over, she grabbed his arm, her concern evident. “We haven't had dinner yet. Where are you going?”

Pulling away gently, Kristopher glanced out the window where the night had fully descended. “It’s not safe for

her to walk alone at this hour.”

Cathy immediately understood he was referring to Belinda. Tightening her grip, she persisted, “Even if Miss

Nelson left on her own, what if someone cto pick her up? If she chose to leave by herself, she should've

arranged for a way back.”

Suppressing any hint of jealousy or resentment, Cathy softened her tone. “Avery’s almost finished with dinner.

She went out of her way tonight, preparing a few extra dishes just for you. Considering she’s over fifty, it's quite

an effort. It wouldn't be right to leave without tasting any of it, would it?”

Kristopher frowned, pausing in his departure as his resolve wavered. Part of him did feel a twinge of guilt at

potentially disappointing the elderly servant. Secondly, he hadn't tasted Avery's cooking in years and did miss it.

“Yes, Kristopher, please don't leave yet,” Evelyn's voice joined in from the side, injecting a note of urgency.

“Let's have dinner together as a family of three! Besides, even if you were to leave, it wouldn't make much

difference to wait a bit longer. It'll take at most half an hour. It’s not like Miss Nelson would run into trouble

exactly during this half hour, right?”

Though Evelyn's words were meant to persuade him to stay, they inadvertently sparked a realization in

Kristopher—danger could strike at any moment. A few days earlier, Anthony had warned Kristopher about a pack

of wolves spotted on the suburban roads at night. Anthony had mentioned that Nawrin’s ecology was improving,

leading to increased wolf activity after dark.

With a surge of determination, Kristopher swiftly freed his arm from Cathy’s grasp. “I'll savor Avery's cooking

another time. Right now, | must find Belinda.”

And with that, he hurriedly walked away.

“Kristopher!”
