"I helped her out of reflex," Alex quickly explained. "I had no idea who she was. Don't worry, it won't happen again. I promise to steer clear of her from now on." He raised his right hand as though he was swearing an oath.
Sadie just nodded and said nothing more, completely ignoring Alex's obvious joy.
"Shall I drive you back to the office?" he offered.
"That won't be necessary. I have other things to take care of. Let's part ways here." Sadie didn't even wait for Alex to respond and got into the car parked by the road.
Alex watched as the sports car sped away, a trace of disappointment flickering in his eyes.
