Chapter 1604:
“You're telling me,” Hadley chimed in, giving the two of them a knowing look. “And I'm not just being biased
because he’s my little brother. Brady really is a great young man.”
“I couldn't agree more!” Colleen beamed, laughing openly. Her joy was infectious, her demeanor sincere and
easygoing.
Then, with a spark of excitement, Hadley added, “Oh! Letintroduce you properly—this is Elissa Holland.
Elissa, meet Colleen Hayes.”
“Nice to meet you, Miss Hayes,” Elissa said with a polite smile.
“Nice to meet you too! Please, just callColleen, and I'll call you Elissa, okay?”
“Sure, that’s fine,” Elissa replied, her smile softening.
Compared to the more reserved Elissa and graceful Hadley, Colleen’s nature was refreshingly direct and earnest
—her friendliness as effortless as it was genuine.
As the conversation warmed and laughter passed easily between them, the dishes began to arrive.

barely had tto eat earlier while we were running after the kids. You two showed up just in time—now we can
eat and catch up.”
She leaned in, eyes bright with curiosity. “So, how have you been lately? Settling in well at the hospital?”
Their conversation flowed easily as they began to eat.
Just as Colleen was about to answer, her phone buzzed loudly from her pocket. At that moment, she had both
hands wrapped around a rib, mid-bite, completely unbothered. She looked over at Brady with a mischievous grin
and winked.
“Mind givinga hand?”
“Sure,” Brady said, already reaching into her jacket pocket. He pulled out her phone, glanced at the screen,
accepted the call, and then held it to her ear. “Hello? Yes. Got it!”

Colleen’s face shifted, her tone turning brisk and professional. “I'm heading over right now.”
“What's wrong?” Hadley asked, concern etching her face as Colleen quickly swallowed her bite, tore off her
disposable gloves, and got to her feet.
“There's been a multi-car accident at Riverbank Bridge,” Colleen explained. “Several trauma cases just hit the
ER. It’s all hands on deck.”
“But you've barely eaten anything...” Hadley frowned, noting the untouched portions on Colleen’s plate.
“I'm used to it,” Colleen said, already grabbing her bag. “You know how it is—comes with the job.”
She gave Elissa a quick wave. “Let's catch up properly next time, okay?” And with that, she turned and strode
out the door.
“Ill cwith you.” Brady pushed his chair back and stood, glancing briefly at Hadley. “Her car was towed. I'll
drive her.”
“That's sweet of you, but really—no need,” Colleen said, pausing mid-step. “I can just grab a cab.”
“Let Brady take you!” Hadley interjected, waving off her protest. “You're in a rush, and saving lives comes first.
Don’t waste targuing—just go.”
