Chapter 1608:
“Sure. Bye!” With a wave, Colleen turned and jogged through the gate.
Brady watched her disappear behind the gate, slid into the driver's seat, and rested his hands on the wheel
without turning the key.
Something in him wouldn't settle. What if something went wrong?
Instead of leaving, he chose to wait, engine off, silently keeping watch.
Meanwhile, inside the house, Colleen barely made it past the doorway before her parents launched into her.
“Didn’t we ask you not to cback? And now you sneak in behind our backs?”
“What were you even thinking? You could've been an associate professor at a respected university. Isn't that
enough for you?”
“I just missed home, that’s all... | missed you both.” For a brief second, the room fell quiet.
“Wait until your brother hears about this. He won't let it slide.”
“I know, | know. I'm sorry, okay? Please don’t be angry anymore.”

back to her childhood bedroom, she glanced at her phone and saw a message from Brady waiting.
“How'd it go? Were they hard on you? Everything alright?”
Reading the message, Colleen blinked at the screen, a little caught off guard by how genuinely concerned he
sounded.
Just outside the house, Brady felt his phone vibrate with her response.
“They're fine now. | managed to smooth things over.” A quiet breath left Brady as the tension in his chest eased.
“Glad to hear that.”
“Are you hyet?”

“Yeah, just got in.”
“Alright then. Sleep well. And don’t forget—you’re still owed that meal.”
“Will do. Good night.”
After setting his phone aside, Brady looked back at the house one last time. Only then did he turn the key, pull
onto the road, and drive away.
By the tthe clock struck 9 P.M., Eric had rushed back to Olisvale Bay. As he stepped into the house, he
noticed the dining room lights still glowing gently.
“You're home,” Hadley said.
She was dressed in a long, oat-toned silk gown, a cashmere shawl resting lightly on her shoulders. Her hair was
styled in a loose fishtail braid that fell neatly over her chest. No makeup adorned her face—she looked
effortlessly graceful.
Without waiting for a reply, she turned and walked into the dining room. “Con. Tfor your medicine.”
The tone left no room for negotiation—it wasn’t a suggestion.
“Okay.”
Eric trailed after her, took his seat, and quietly drank the herbal brew she’d prepared, never taking his eyes off
her.
Noticing his gaze, Hadley narrowed her eyes slightly. “Why are you staring atlike that?”
