Jason brought over a hairdryer, sat at the edge of the bed, and gently began to dry Sophia’s hair. She closed her eyes, melting

under the soothing touch of his fingers massaging her scalp. Before her hair was even halfway dry, she drifted off to sleep, curled

Jason quietly put away the hairdryer, tucked the blanket around her, and left the room.

Jason's lips curled in amusement. “Your clothes have arrived. I'll go get them. Take a moment if you need it.”

She watched him leave, then promptly yanked the blanket over her head in tic exasperation.

By the tthey arrived at Old Mr. Quintin’s home, night had fallen. Evelyn spotted Jason and hurried over. “Jason!”

He gave her a cool, businesslike nod. “Let's keep it professional—Mr. Gilder will do.”

Sophia entered just behind him, a slight smile playing on her lips. She ignored Evelyn's difort and turned to Jason. “I'm going

to see Father Quintin.”

Evelvn stepped aside and offered Sophia a tentative smile. “Did evervthing online work out? | didn’t tell Grandpa—didn’t want him
