Jeffrey had already given his blessing to Edward and me, and Vivian didn’t object either. As long as Ryan didn’t
stir up trouble, things between Edward andwould be set.
But now, the elders were on board, while the younger ones were making a fuss.

headed straight for Aurelia.
After all, | decided not to mention Ryan at all. He was just pissed off at the time, so he said scrazy stuff he

When we arrived in Aurelia, we went straight to the hospital room.
Edward and | entered, and saw that Jane and her boyfriend Joel Sinclair were already there.
Nora was lying in bed, fast asleep, clutching a cute little bunny to her chest.
Jane gave us a look, silently telling us to step outside so we wouldn't wake Nora.
So, all four of us stepped out into the hallway.
I'd met Jane before, but this was the first twe were properly introduced.

Joel raised an eyebrow. “So you're already acquainted?”
Edward ignored him and quietly asked Jane, “What's really going on with Nora?”
“She’s running a fever from gastroenteritis,” Jane replied, then glanced at me. “Ms. Murphy, we met in Sandanyo
last time. | didn’t expect you'd be the new girlfriend he’s found.”
“Hello!” | greeted politely.
Jane had that unmistakable boss-lady energy. She could really go toe-to-toe with Edward when it cto
personality.
Jane nodded at me. “Last time, | wanted to treat you to dinner, but Edward said you weren't available. Now that
you're in Aurelia, let's find a chance for that meal.”
Edward said flatly, “If you have something to say, just say it now.”
Jane smiled. “Guarding her so closely, huh? Looks like you're really serious this time.”
“Yes, | am,” Edward said, glancing at me. “You want to talk about Nora, right?”
Jane nodded, her tone serious. “How are things with you, Ms. Murphy? Mind sharing?”
Edward answered for me, “She’s divorced and has a daughter. Her daughter met Nora last time.”

Jane's expression shifted as she stared at Edward. “So you've already got the kids acquainted. Seems like you
planned ahead more than | thought.”
“I just want the two kids to get along.” Edward said.
Jane let out a soft snort. “Get along? Then you'd better be fair with your fatherly love. Remember last tyou
had a girlfriend? Nora didn’t take it well.”
| was startled and immediately looked over at Joel, who was leaning against the wall.
Joel just glanced at me, his expression unreadable.
Edward said in a low, serious voice, “Ill talk to Nora.”
“Are you two planning to have a baby as soon as you get married?” Jane looked straight at me. “Sorry for being
so upfront, but this is real life-Nora deserves every bit of what she’s entitled to.”
My heart did a little flip. Trust Jane to get straight to the point-she was already thinking about how the money
would be split.
Edward's face tightened with annoyance. “Jane, | never tried to take Nora's custody from you. What exactly are
you trying to say?”
Jane shot back, “I just want you to keep your feelings out of it. Any agreements that need signing, you'd better
get them sorted before anything else.”
Hearing that, | glanced over at Joel.
Joel just shrugged at me, looking like he wished he could disappear.
Edward's voice went cold. “Don’t talk about stuff like this in front of Victoria. I'll stay and look after Nora. If
you've got things to do, just go.”
Jane gavea proud look, then turned to Joel. “Let's head out.”
Joel nodded and left with her.
Edward turned to me. “Don’t take what Jane said to heart. That's just how she is.”
| replied calmly, “It’s fine. Honestly, | think she’s pretty thorough.”
“You actually admire that?” Edward blinked, a little taken aback.
