Chapter 766
“If she really cared about you, she’d leave. She shouldn't cbetween you and Ryan,” Nora shot back, then
turned and ran back into the hospital room.
Her words stung, leavingfeeling awkward and ashamed.
“Victoria, I'll go talk to her,” Edward said softly, his voice full of concern.
| nodded. “Okay”
Edward stepped into the hospital room and closed the door behind him, clearly trying to shieldfrom any
more hurtful words.
Watching Edward and Nora talk in the hospital room, my feelings were all over the place. | turned and headed for
the elevator.
After coming back to life, I'd been waving the flag of freedom, but somehow | kept getting swept up in the mess
of relationships.
Now, it felt like I'd been dumped right back where | started.
Standing at the elevator, | watched the numbers tick up, my mind blank for a moment.

I've never really dared to look into my own heart, because there’s so much stuff buried there-even things I'm
afraid to admit to myself.
And right now, it suddenly hit me: | might actually be in love with someone I'm not supposed to love.
But my heart's already fallen, and | feel totally lost-like I'm wandering through a forest with no way out.
When | got to the ground floor, | saw a café across the street and walked right in.
Language wasn’t a barrier anymore, and that madefeel a bit more at ease on these foreign streets.
| ordered a coffee and grabbed a seat by the window.
Outside, the scenery was unfamiliar, people of all backgrounds passing by, but somehow my heart gradually
settled down.
“Excuse me, is this seat taken?” a middle-aged man asked.
| replied coolly, “Is there something you need?”
“I noticed you were sitting here alone, looking a bit down. As a fellow countryman, is there anything | can do to
help?” the man said, trying to sound sincere.
| leaned back in my chair and let out a cold laugh. “If you know I'm not in a good mood, then please don’t
bother me.”

| cut him off coldly. “People always say the ones you really have to watch out for overseas are your own people.”
He looked awkward for a second, then fished out a business card. “I run my own company here. If you ever need
a job or any help, just letknow.”
“You're not exactly young. | bet you have a wife and kids at home. Flirting with random women-ever think about
how your wife would feel?” | shot back, my tone cold and full of disgust.
Seeing his attempt at flirting fail, he just shrugged, a bit more honest now. “My wife's back in the country. She
doesn’t keep tabs on my private life.”
“So, just because your wife's not around, that’s your excuse to mess around?” | shot him a cold, unwavering
look.
“Fine, if you don’t want to talk, that’s up to you. But there’s no need to take a jab at me,” he said, clearly
annoyed as he stood up.
| couldn’t be bothered to respond. | just stared out the window, ignoring him completely.
Tseemed to drag on endlessly. ‘Is Edward still not done talking?‘ | thought, growing impatient.
| reached for my phone, only to realize it was completely dead.
Not that it mattered-my phone might not even work in this country anyway.
Thinking that, | quickly paid the bill and hurried out of the café.
Doing the math, | realized it had already been more than half an hour.
‘If Edward can’t get in touch with me, will he think | left because | was upset?’ | wondered.
‘Will he clooking for me?‘ | couldn't help but worry.
| pressed my hand to my forehead, trying to figure out where | could find somewhere to charge my phone.
Just then, | heard hurried footsteps coming from down the hallway.
| turned around and saw Edward. As soon as he saw me, he rushed over and wrappedin a tight hug.
“Victoria, where did you go? I've been looking for you for so long.”
