Chapter 923 Working life's no walk in the park, that's for sure!! After Everett left with Alex, Selena glided back into her office. As soon as the door clicked shut, she slapped the documents onto her desk, hands on her hips, simmering with anger.

"That jerk, that idiot! What was I even thinking to fall for him?!" Watching the scene unfold, Holt stifled a giggle.

After a moment, she chimed in, "Miss, I know Mr. Everett's acting a bit immature, but you know how guys are- they're just big kids at heart. They all act the swhen they're jealous. I think he's just being stubborn. Deep down, he really cares about you." Still riled up, Selena snapped, "He's lost it." Sure, she hadn't handled things perfectly last time, but what about him? He wouldn't even let her explain, spouted off sharsh words, and then went off to set up dates, yet he wouldn't let her meet anyone else.

What kind of craziness is that? Selena waved off the thought of Everett. What's done is done. If he thinks he can have it both ways, he's dreaming! In the car, Alex kept sneaking glances at his boss in the rearview mirror, unsure if he should speak up.

Everett, surprisingly relaxed, drawled, "If you've got something to say, just say it." Alex gulped, "Mr. Everett, if you want to patch things up with Mrs. Everett... just do it already. You're acting like a teenager." Everett's dark eyes flicked a cold look at him.

Alex quickly zipped his lips.

Everett tapped his fingers thoughtfully on the armrest, "Tell Selena the contract's signed. She's got to hand- deliver it to Bennett Corporation tomorrow, or I'm not signing off on it." Alex thought to himself: Well, he's definitely on a one-way trip to disaster town.

That evening, Selena drove back to Maple Bay.

As she stepped into the foyer, a pair of men's black leather shoes caught her eye, and she raised an eyebrow.

After slipping off her shoes, she walked in, spotting a tall figure by the window, staring out at the night sky She paused for a moment, feeling a pang in her chest.

"Blaine, you're back." Blaine turned slowly to face her.

They hadn't seen each other in nearly six months. Blaine looked a lot leaner now, his cheeks hollow, his features sharper.

His eyes were shadowed, his presence cool, the last bit of warmth replaced by a stern aura.

Selena took a good look at him, her heart aching.

Though Blaine hadn't gone into detail about his tin France, it was clear he'd been through hell and back to get things under control there.

Selena stepped closer, her voice a bit rough, "You've really slimmed down." Blaine reached out, gently ruffling her hair, "You've lost weight too. But my dear niece, you did a fantastic job. You gavepeace of mind, which letwin the battle in France." There was no need for many words.

They knew each other well, trusted each other like family.

Selena didn't want to linger on the tough times. Smiling, she said, "I had Ava cook up something special for you. You must be missing her cooking after being away for so long, right?" Blaine grinned, "Absolutely, nothing beats a home-cooked meal."

As Selena headed toward the kitchen, Blaine stopped her, her, Where's Alexa? Isn't she staying here?" He'd already checked around Maple Bay when he got back but hadn't seen Alexa.

Hearing his question, Selena's smile wavered.

She'd nearly forgotten she hadn't filled Blaine in on what was om happening with Alexa...
