After Dean Larson left, only Sarah and Zachary remained in the counseling office. Sarah kept her eyes on her
papers, letting an awkward silence fill the room.
"Shouldn't a counselor show more concern for her patient?" Zachary raised an eyebrow.
Sarah put the papers in her drawer and replied evenly, "What psychological issues bring you here, Mr.
Reynolds?"
Zachary stared at her intently. "Heartbreak. I'm in agony every day. What should | do?"
"Mr. Reynolds, perhaps no one has told you, but heartbreak is a normal emotional response, not a psychological
condition. If you feel your distress has becunbearable, I'd suggest emotional release or emotional
sublimation techniques," Sarah explained professionally.
Zachary watched her with interest. He loved seeing her this way, confident and passionate. It seemed more...
like her true self.
"What are these emotional release and sublimation techniques?" he asked, feigning ignorance.
"As the names suggest, emotional release involves confiding in someone - friends or family. Emotional
sublimation means channeling your grief into productive energy, throwing yourself into work or studies. |

Zachary drummed his fingers on the desk, creating a hollow tapping sound. Suddenly, he pointed at her. "Could |
confide in Counselor Sarah? We're friends, after all."
Sarah shook her head. "Mr. Reynolds has many friends. I'm just a counselor with a busy schedule."
"Is that all you have to say to me?" Zachary sounded disappointed.
Sarah looked at him puzzled, then continued after a pause, "What would you liketo say? Getting over
heartbreak is simply a matter of time. Speople recover in days, others struggle for months despite their
best efforts, and snever trdly move on."
"What about you?" Zachary suddenly leaned forward, his eyes locked on hers.
Sarah's breath caught. She looked away, clearing her throat. "Mr. Reynolds, we're here to discuss your situation."
Zachary clearly wasn't letting this
go. "Why won't you answer, Counselor? Do you think you'll get over(t quickly, or are you one of the latter two
types?"
"Mr. Reynolds, if we're done here, you can leave. Other students are waiting for consultations," Sarah deflected.
Zachary leaned back in his chair, giving her a faint smile. "Sasa, how can you counselwhen you haven't
moved on yourself?"
His words cut deep, but Sarah couldn't deny their truth.
She couldn't get over these feelings herself - how could she advise him to do the same?
She forced herself to speak. "But it's different, Zachary. You have Vivian."
"I don't," Zachary looked at her
