Jerpressed his lips together. “I'll be starting elementary school next year.”
“Okay.”
“Do you want to be in the sschool as me?”
“If Jesse’s in the sschool as you, then I'll be there too,” Nina said simply, prioritizing Jesse. “If
he’s not, then I have to be with him.”
To her, it was straightforward. If she and Jesse were in the sschool, she could always turn to
him for help. Having family nearby made her feel safe.

After dinner, Jerome’s family cto pick him up.
Nina didn’t seem the least bit sad to see him go—she waved goodbye cheerfully, then skipped back
to her room to pack, buzzing with excitement about her upcoming trip to Jeucwell with Kristian.
Jesse was caught off guard by Nina’s reactions and walked over to strike up a conversation. “What did Jerome
say to you?”
“He asked if | wanted to watch the fireworks show at his place,” Nina answered plainly, still trying to pick a hair
clip from the box. “But we'll still be at Jeucwell with Uncle Kristian by then, so I told him no.”
“Don’t you love hanging out with Jerome?” Jesse asked curiously.
“We can play when we get back,” Nina said sensibly. “But this is our first tgoing to Jeucwell.”
Jesse gave her a little nod, not saying anything else.
Sometimes, he honestly couldn't tell if Nina liked Kristian that much because he was sweet to her or because she
thought he was good-looking.
“Well, Jesse...” Nina suddenly remembered something.

Jesse looked up. “What is it?”
“Which school do you want to go to for elementary?” Nina asked innocently, just wanting to know. “Jerasked
if | wanted to go to the sone as him.”
“I haven't decided yet,” Jesse lied. “Do you want to go with him?”
Nina answered excitedly, “Yes!”
She thought it'd be amazing if both Jesse and Jerwent to the sschool.
Jesse didn’t hold back how he felt and blurted out, “I don’t want to.”
“Jerome’s nice,” Nina tried to convince him, thinking it would be a blast if the three of them went together. “It
would be fun if we were all at the sschool.”
