Loving Mom 244

Chapter 244

Uriah had no intention of being polite to doctors like these.

Turning to Carter, he said flatly, “I've told you before-I can cure that girl. But if you insist on trusting these

quacks, then don’t bother coming to me. | can’t entertain honored guests like you.”

There was a quiet certainty in Uriah’s voice, so firm that even Carter-who’d still harbored sdoubts-couldn’t

help but start

to believe him.

He'd already looked into Uriah’s background over the past few days.

The man’s origins were murky at best, but his medical skill was undeniable. He had treated countless patients

with so-called terminal illnesses-and succeeded. And it was true, the man was eccentric. He often made bizarre

demands of his patients. On this point, Sharon and Uriah hadn't lied.

And compared to the conditions he’d placed on others, what he'd asked of Kelly was, in fact, rather mild.

With that thought, Carter spoke, “Mr. Malcolm, don’t worry. I'll bring Kelly to you first thing tomorrow.”

Uriah frowned. “She already wasted another day today. Delay it again and she’ll fall further behind. Also, the

herb-sorting she skipped? She'll need to make that up.”

His gaze shifted to the unconscious Kelly. “Playing tricks won't work with me. If she’s so eager to die, let her keep

stalling. It’s not my life on the line. I'm not the one who should be anxious.”

Kelly, who had just begun to regain consciousness, nearly shot upright in bed at those words.

This old man-he really was trying to make her life miserable.

Uriah didn’t linger. He turned and left.

Sharon, holding Matty’s hand, followed him out.

As they stepped out of the hospital, Uriah suddenly asked, “You really didn’t check into Kelly's illness?”

“We did,” Sharon replied, opening the car door for him. “All we found were fake medical records. As for what's

really going on

with her, not even Xavier could dig it up.”

Uriah nodded in understanding. “Seems she’s got someone skilled backing her. Sharon, do you want to expose

her?”

Sharon buckled her seatbelt. “Of course | do. Just... not yet.”

“Oh?”

She started the car. “I'm worried that if | expose her now, Carter might suddenly refuse to go through with the

divorce. Better to let her keep pretending. Let her actually marry into the Biggs family. I'd really like to see who'll

cout on top-her or Carter's mother.”

Uriah caught her meaning and let out a loud, hearty laugh. “Vengeful and smart. Good for you!”

After that, all of Kelly's tricks-fainting, pretending to be sick-stopped working.

Left with no other option, she finally gave in.

She could feel it clearly now-she had gone too far. Carter was starting to lose his patience with her.

“Kelly,” he said, “when your life’s at stake, is a little discomfort really that hard to bear? | reviewed the clinic's

footage. No one was making things difficult for you. Your duties are the sas Matty’s. If a five-year-old can

manage it, are you saying you can’t even do that much?”

Kelly complained to Nate. After hearing everything, his first reaction was to unleash a tirade against Sharon. But

afterward, he tried to console her.

“Kelly, just hold on a little longer. Once we get our hands on that damn old man’s prescription, I'll tear his clinic

to the ground myself.”

Once he calmed down, even Nate realized he might've taken things a bit too far.

Sure, he'd let his temper get the better of him. But if he'd really charged in back then, the only one he could've

touched was the old doctor.

Matty was Xavier's son-he couldn't afford to lay a hand on him.
