Chapter 1384:

Brenna'’s senses went on high alert. “A man? Was it Waldo?”

Sylvie quickly dismissed the idea, saying, “Definitely not Waldo. I've seen him before—his ads are everywhere in

Plomond. This was someone else. Gracie didn’t seem thrilled to be with him, either. She called him Hector. And

get this, they bought one of every single product in the store. That is weird. It feels like they were up to

something.”

“I see,” Brenna said, pressing Sylvie for more details before wrapping up the call.

Later that evening, Ethan swung by to pick Brenna up. “My mother wants us to drop by her place for dinner. Do

you want to go?” he said.

Brenna grabbed her bag and followed him out.

“I'll pass. Honestly, a little space sounds best. | don’t want to spend much twith her,” Brenna replied.

Ethan shrugged. “Makes sense. If you're skipping, how about dinner with just the two of us?”

Brenna glanced over at him with a questioning look. “Do you know why your mother wants to have dinner with

us?”

Ethan shook his head, a resigned look on his face. “Not sure, but I've got a feeling she’s about to make some

wild request. Might be best if we just ignore her.”

As soon as they slid into the car, Ethan's phone started buzzing—Elsa’s nflashed across the screen.

He held it up for Brenna to see before he answered the call. “Mom, Brenna’s busy tonight, and so am I. We won't

be able to have dinner with you.”

Elsa’s voice crackled through, laced with disappointment. “Alright then, when are you free? | need to discuss

something with you.” Ethan switched to speaker so Brenna could listen in.

“What is it? You can tellon the phone now.”

Elsa didn’t miss a beat, launching into her complaint. “It's about your brother and Rosanna. | offered to help by

looking after their baby, but they shotdown. They said they already have a nanny—a complete stranger!

What if that woman isn’t trustworthy? Rosanna’s going back to work eventually, isn’t she? How can she be okay

leaving her own kid with someone she barely knows? You and Brenna need to talk ssense into them.

Convince Kenny and Rosanna to letbabysit their child.”

Ethan felt resigned. “Mom, I'm trying to set you up with a teaching job at Shirie University. You love teaching art

students, right? You'll be working soon. As for the baby, maybe Rosanna wants her own mother to take care of

her daughter. You shouldn't worry about the matter.”

Elsa huffed in protest. “What's so wrong about wanting to care for my granddaughter? Like it or not, I'm not

giving up on this. They trust a stranger but not me? Go ask Rosanna what she is thinking! That baby is my

granddaughter, and | have every right to babysit her.”
