She shook her head and added, "I've explained to Patrick that I no longer love his father, but Patrick keeps insisting that dads should love moms and vice versa. He craves a complete family so much that whenever I see that hopeful look in his eyes, I find myself unable to shatter his dreams by telling him Jayceon and I are impossible to be together." Brenna didn't know how to comfort Ellie; handling emotional matters wasn't her strength. "We'll figure it out as we go," she eventually said. She did, however, understand Ellie's situation. Ellie had no intention of rekindling her relationship with Jayceon; the gap between them was just too wide.
