Sloane caught Lucas’s gaze and froze for a moment. But she quickly brushed it off. No could recognize me, she

told herself. Her disguise skills had been honed under her uncle’s strict training. There was no way Lucas could

see through it.

Meanwhile, the hospital director had to step out to deal with the aftermath of the earlier incident. Before leaving,

he repeatedly told Sloane to wait for him to return.

As the nurse carefully wrapped up Sloane's injured hand, she spoke with gentle concern. “Make sure to keep the

wound dry. Change the bandage on time. And if anything feels off, cback to the hospital immediately.”

“Got it. Thank you,” Sloane nodded politely.

Benjamin approached as soon as she stepped out of the room, gratitude written all over his face. “I really don’t

know how to thank you. If it weren't for you, | probably wouldn't even be standing here. And what happened with

Mr. Clark-you stopped a disaster before it could happen. You've done so much, not just forbut for this entire

hospital.”

He made a move to bow, but Sloane quickly raised a hand to stop him. “That's too much, Mr. Benjamin. Anyone

else in my shoes would've done the same. It wasn’t a big deal.”

But Benjamin clearly didn’t see it that way. “No, no. Saving two lives in one day? That's no small favor. I'll never

forget what you did.”

Sloane wasn't great at handling this kind of emotional gratitude, so she let him talk, nodding occasionally just to

be polite.

What really made her uncomfortable, though, was Lucas’s eyes on her. His gaze felt like it could strip away her

disguise.

lly and said, “Dr. Gray, you're impressive-skilled hands and quick reflexes. Remindsa lot of someone | know.”

Sloane caught the hint. He was suspicious.

But she stayed calm, leaning into her character. “Oh? Well, | suppose when someone’s exceptional, there's

bound to be overlap.”

Lucas smiled faintly, but there was something behind that smile-something probing. “Yeah, | guess that makes

sense.”

Benjamin looked between the two of them, puzzled. Lucas knows someone like her? Since when?

“Mr. Benjamin! | finally found you!” Conrad barreled toward them, clearly flustered. “Please take a look at my

sister's hand-she’s been in so much pain...”

Then he spotted Lucas and immediately perked up. “Mr. Hawthorne! You're here too? What a coincidence!”

Conrad moved in eagerly, forgetting completely why he'd come. Lucas, meanwhile, took a discreet step back,

widening the space between them. His expression cooled.

Conrad, oblivious, kept going. “I've stopped by your company a few times, but you were always busy. Fate must

really want us to talk if we ran into each other here.”

Lucas didn’t even respond. Instead, he turned the conversation back to its original point. “Didn’t you chere

for Mr. Benjamin to check your sister's hand?”

“Oh, right.” Conrad finally remembered. He pulled Samantha forward. “Mr. Benjamin, could you take a look? Her

hand’s been bothering her since she twisted it a few days ago. The doctor said it's healed, but she still feels pain

when she exerts pressure.”

Benjamin carefully examined Samantha's wrist, asking a few detailed questions before making his assessment.

“Ms. Rivers, from what | can tell, your hand has already recovered.”

Samantha looked frustrated. “Then why does it still hurt when | use it? We've done all the scans and tests, and

nothing shows up!”

She was nearly frantic. With the apprentice competition hosted by a legendary pianist just around the corner,

she couldn't afford for her hand to be unreliable. And yet here it was-still in pain.
