Chapter 586: Last Days

And twas running out. The trial was approaching. If nothing changed, the housekeeper, loyal or not, would

be condemned.

I'm convinced it's not him...

She sat on the edge of her bed one night, watching the faint rise and fall of the curtains as the wind blow in. Her

voice dropped to a whisper only the Love System could hear.

What am | missing? I've searched everywhere. I've circled this castle a hundred times and still found nothing.

Can't you just tellwho it is? Who they are?

"You don’t have enough good points for that," the System replied, its tone soft, almost sorrowful.

Nnenna pressed her hands together tightly, refusing to let frustration swallow her calm. Then can’t | get

something with what | have? A clue, a direction, anything at all?

"You can... but I'm not sure how much help it will be. If you can’t interpret it correctly, it may be nothing but a

waste."

Try me, Nnenna said firmly.

The System paused as if sighing.

Ding!

"7,000 good points deducted."

The system's voice echoed in her mind, monotone, yet carrying a faint riddle like rhythm.

"Seek not in the shadows where strangers tread,

But in the garden hearts call hinstead.

The bloom that is closest may carry the thorn,

Where fragrance of safety hides secrets forlorn.

Look where devotion lingers day by day,

The flower you trust may wither that way."

Nnenna froze. The words repeated in her head, slow and heavy, each line digging into her thoughts.

"What does that even mean...?" she muttered, pacing in her room. The riddle seemed simple at first, but the

more she thought about it, the more complex it became.

The "garden hearts call home" that didn’t sound like the actual gardens outside. No, it meant somewhere people

felt safe, somewhere familiar.

And the "bloom"ba flower. Or maybe it wasn’t a literal flower. Maybe it referred to a person who looked harmless,

someone admired or trusted.

Her eyes narrowed. ‘The bloom you trust may wither that way...”

Immediately, the first person that cto mind was nanny. Sweet, gentle, always around Carl like a devoted

flower at his bedside. She arranged fruit, decorated trays, folded linens as if trying to add fragrance to his life.

"Yes... nanny," Nnenna whispered, her gut tightening. She could search others, the sous chef, the maids, even

Daniel, but her instincts screamed otherwise.

If the riddle was right, then the flower wasn’t just a metaphor. It pointed to the very places nanny frequented,

places drenched in her daily presence.

Carl's room.

The room where he lived, where he slept, where nanny moved about constantly. If something was hidden, if a

thorn was disguised as a bloom, this was where it would be.

Her decision was set. "Then I'll start here."

The door slide open as Nnenna approached, and as expected, nanny was there, bent slightly, arranging the

cushions in Carl's outer room with her usual care. At the sound, nanny turned with that calm smile she always

wore.

"You're here," she said softly.

But Nnenna’s eyes weren't on her. They were on the girl standing beside her. The girl's shoulders had given the

smallest, barely noticeable flinch when the door opened. If Nnenna hadn't been watching so closely, she might

have missed it.

"Cynthia, you should go now," nanny said smoothly, not noticing Nnenna’s sharp gaze.

"Yes, mommy." The girl dipped her head, handed one of the folded blankets she was carrying to nanny, and

quietly walked out.

Nnenna’s eyes followed her until the door closed behind her. Her mind was racing. I've been chasing shadows

among the heads of staff... but what if it's simpler than that?

Someone trusted enough to bring blankets or trays into Carl’s room... and nanny, without suspicion, arranges

them with her own hands. That would slip past everyone's guard.

"Who's that?" Nnenna asked finally, her tone casual though her eyes stayed sharp.

Nanny’s hands paused for the slightest second before continuing to smooth the blanket. "That's my first

daughter, Cynthia."

"I see." Nnenna tilted her head, voice calm. "I remember you saying you only had sons. Where did Cynthia come

from? And most importantly how long has she been among the servants that bring Carl's things upstairs?"

Nanny’s frown deepened. "She's not a servant." Her voice carried an edge of displeasure, though she kept it

calm. "She's Carl's friend. In fact, he sees her like a little sister."

"I see..." Nnenna'’s eyes narrowed slightly, her tone quiet but cutting as a blade. "Strange. He never mentioned

her."

The air in the room shifted instantly.

But nanny recovered quickly, her expression smoothing over as if nothing had happened.

"That's probably because you two aren’t that close," she replied in her usual gentle tone.

Nnenna finally turned her gaze on her. "Well... that’s your opinion." Her eyes then shifted to the room around

them. "If you're done here, you can go."

"I'm not done yet," nanny said firmly.

"What's remaining then?" Nnenna asked, watching closely.

Nnenna raised a brow. "I'm pretty sure you're done here. | want to do a check up."

"No. I'm not finished. And besides, Alice is our resident doctor," nanny countered, her voice tightening as if trying

to mask her irritation.

"I want to do a check up myself," Nnenna repeated calmly, her voice carrying quiet authority.

"But—" nanny started again, her tone sharp this time.

"I'm ordering you to leave," Nnenna interrupted, her voice steady and final.

But in the end, she set the blanket down and turned. Without another word, she left the room, her silence
